An Unbreakable Legacy

You asked me the other night…My Final Toast…What would I say…
I wasn’t sure how to answer because my heart knows that I don’t want it this way. 

I don’t want to lose someone that felt in every way like a dad to me…
Someone who didn’t turn me away or judge me no matter what truth I let him see.

He taught us strength…He taught us courage…Told us to hold our ground…
Walked behind us every step of the way as we discovered our hearts true sound.

He said it’s okay to make mistakes if our commitment stayed whole…
He showed us the heart of a lion can still have a caring and unwavering soul.

He taught lessons through tough times by letting us find our own way…
While promising that being by our side is somewhere he would always stay..

A legacy built strong enough to continue guiding those who feel empty and lost…
A story and life that will forever hold a beauty that doesn’t have a cost.

I can’t say it will be okay or things will make sense…
Because the legacy you left behind holds a courage that is so rich and so dense.

But one thing I can promise you that I know for sure…
Is that there has never been a role model in my life that I have respected more.

You saved my life more times than you will ever know…
By accepting my mistakes and shortcomings when I didn’t know where to go.

Love doesn’t stop when its time to go with the way your message stands…
It only feeds a heart what it needs to place hope in all of our hands…

You told me to fight harder and to watch my heart through all that I do…
